Lincoln ELAC End of Year Celebration!

On Thursday, May 19, 2011 Lincoln Elementary School in Simi Valley held our end of year English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) Celebration at 6:00 p.m. in our school cafeteria.

Approximately twelve families and over 50 people attended.  ELAC organizing staff members are led by teacher, Carmen Brooks and include: teachers Espe Smith and Barbara Viramontes, Community Liaison Ligia Fleckenstein, and Principal Brenda Montaine.

The evening began with a presentation by Mrs. Brook’s first graders who sang This Land is Your Land.  Entertainment continued with a very talented parent volunteer who sang and played his guitar.  The evening celebration continued with a potluck dinner, raffle, and information on new math curriculum.  Principal Montaine congratulated Lincoln’s English Language Learners who were being honored with reclassification certificates and presented with the heart warming children’s book, Whoever You Are by Mem Fox.

ELAC fulfills a California Legislature requirement for schools and districts that educate English Learners.
